JoanthanWeinertThe purpose of this website is to give you a little glimpse into my world.  I'm a planning engineer at Chevron Energy Technology Company and recently (Dec 07) graduated with my PhD from University of California, Davis. As a PhD student, I spent two years researching electric bike development in China. As an engineer at Chevron, I'm assessing alternative fuel, vehicle, and energy technologies in order to help management make strategic decisions. I'm from Detroit, but have spent parts of my life in Boston, Sydney, Los Angeles, Davis (California), Beijing, Shanghai, and most recently the East Bay (near SanFrancisco).  I hope to contribute to this world by improving transportation and energy systems.

ChinaDogThese blogs tell the stories (some via youtube videos) of my experiences over the past few years since I first became interested in understanding energy problems. The most recent blogs are from the past two years of living in Shanghai, China (2005-2007). I moved there to figure out how electric two-wheelers took off so well there and what sort of implications it will have on battery technology and the future electrification of vehicles.

The blogs from Fuel Cell Trek 01-04 are from a wonderful period of my life (2001-04) in which Fuel Cell Trek was created and the adventure began. I moved from Michigan to Cali, started working for Ford's fuel cell group, became a grad student at UC Davis, and immersed myself in the world of hydrogen energy.

I'm now living in Point Richmond right on the bay and across from San Francisco, and am slowly settling into my new career with Chevron. I've got a great boss and teammates, so it should be an exciting 2008. Wish me luck!
